The Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences of the University of Groningen invites applicants for an Assistant Professor position in the unit of Experimental Psychology.

The position combines teaching and research in the broad field of experimental psychology, in particular (applied) cognitive neuroscience, and/or cognitive science.

In teaching, candidates are expected to teach courses in bachelor and master programmes (Dutch or English), predominantly within the Department of Psychology. Furthermore, the candidate will supervise students at the Bachelor, Master, and PhD levels. Participation in managerial committees related to the organisation of the programmes is also expected.

In research, the candidate conducts research based on a coherent, topical program that has the potential to benefit both academic and societal advancement. The candidate is expected to have, or develop, a research funding plan allowing her/him to attract external funding in the short/medium term.

Within the Department, the unit of Experimental Psychology pursues a research program focused on the cognitive underpinnings of human behaviour, as well as their neurophysiological correlates. Available lab facilities include multiple behavioural, eye-tracking, and EEG labs, as well as access to an fMRI scanner housed in the University Medical Centre. Our unit currently has over 30 members of staff at all levels, from PhD candidates to professors. We teach not only in the Psychology bachelor program, but also in the top-rated Behavioural and Cognitive Neurosciences (BCN) research master, the Computational Cognitive Science Master, and the Applied Cognitive Neuroscience Master.

Requirements

- a completed PhD in experimental psychology, (applied) cognitive neuroscience, cognitive science, or related fields
- successful in or promising prospects of raising funding for research
- good publication record in international scientific journals, matching the candidate’s scientific age
- experience and interest in teaching students (lecturing, internship/thesis supervision) and in innovative teaching methods
- relevant teaching qualifications (such as the University Teaching Qualification) or willingness to get this in the short term
- the ability to communicate and teach in English and knowledge of Dutch (level B2 /C1) or willingness to learn this within a reasonable period
- excellent social and communicative skills and ability to work in groups. 

Conditions

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

- depending on qualifications and work experience, a salary of € 3,974 (salary scale 11) to a maximum of € 6,181 (salary scale 12) gross per month for a full-time position
- a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income an 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance
- attractive secondary and market terms of employment
- a temporary contract for a period of one year. After a positive result and development interview at the end of this year the contract will be converted into a permanent one. the position is classified in accordance with the University Job Classification (UFO) system; the UFO profile is Assistant Professor.

Intended starting date: 1 September 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.
