Full Time Postdoctoral Fellow / Programmer Position in Vision and Driving

Schepens Eye Research Institute of Massachusetts Eye and Ear, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, has an opening for a full-time postdoctoral fellow / programmer to work with Drs. Alex Bowers, Gang Luo and Jing Xu in the Mobility Enhancement and Vision Rehabilitation Center of Excellence. The position is initially available for two years.



The successful candidate will make major contributions to an NIH-funded project evaluating the effects of vision impairment on deployment of attention and scanning behaviors when driving. The project includes studies within the controlled environment of a high-fidelity driving simulator complemented by real-world driving studies using in-car recordings of naturalistic driving and scanning behaviors.  Studies will also address the development and evaluation of devices and training to assist visually impaired people when driving. All studies involve working with large data sets. This is a great opportunity to apply your research skills to a project with strong clinical relevance!

Requirements include a PhD, excellent programming skills (MatLab in particular), strong quantitative skills, and a strong research background in a relevant field (such as eye and head movement research, driving research, vision research, computer vision, psychology, engineering, computer science). Ideal candidates will be highly motivated, good communicators with excellent interpersonal skills, and have a keen interest in working with people with vision impairments. Experience of using driving simulators, on-road driving research, naturalistic driving research, or eye and head tracking would be advantageous.
