Dear all,

We are pleased to invite applications for a *PhD studentship fully-funded
by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council – BBSRC*: “Visual
Adaptation: a key to understanding the sensory mechanisms of reading
ability”. This exciting opportunity is based at the *School of Psychology
and Vision Sciences, University of Leicester, UK*, and offers the chance to
conduct innovative research in visual perception and its impact on
literacy, under the supervision of Dr Aurelio Bruno and Dr Ascensión Pagan.

This project aims to use a *combination of psychophysical,
electrophysiological (EEG) and eye-tracking paradigms, as well as
computational modelling*, to probe whether and how visual adaptation can
modulate reading performance.

We seek a motivated individual with:

   - A strong academic background in psychology, neuroscience, vision
   science, or a related field.
   - Experience or interest in experimental research and data analysis.
   - Experience in programming (e.g., Psychopy, Python, R, or Matlab) is
   desirable but not essential.

Applicants should *express interest* to Aurelio Bruno at
aurelio.bruno at leicester.ac.uk prior to making a formal application.

Deadline for applications*: 16th January 2025*

Students will be provided with a *4 year studentship*. This includes:
Tuition fees at the UK fee rate*, a tax free stipend which for 2024/5
is *£19,237
per year* (2025/6 stipend to be confirmed), a travel allowance in year 1, a
travel/conference budget, a generous consumables budget, use of a laptop
for the duration of the programme. The University of Leicester will provide
full overseas fee waivers for the duration of their study to all
