Dear Colleagues,
We're inviting a postdoc to join Dr Tessa Dekker's Child Vision Lab<https://childvisionlab.co.uk/> at University College London, UK. Applications are open until March 1st 2025, with flexible start date. The role is funded by a Wellcome Trust Career Development Award to study neural plasticity in sight deprivation and sight rescue. The initial appointment is for 1 year, with funding in place to extend to 5 years.
The project investigates how the brains of children and adults adapt to loss of visual input, and how they respond to next-generation sight rescue treatments such as ocular gene therapy. Methods include visual psychophysics, advanced neuroimaging (EEG, MRI, etc.), and computational modeling in patients with eye diseases, including young children. The results will inform new treatments for sight loss. For related publications see our website (https://childvisionlab.co.uk/), including: Maimon-Mor et al., 2024, eLife<https://elifesciences.org/reviewed-preprints/100404>; Farahbakhsh et al., 2022, Brain<https://academic.oup.com/brain/article/145/11/3803/6673168>; Chow-Wing-Bom et al., 2024 BioRxiv<https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.10.29.619403v2.full.pdf>.
We're looking for applicants with a PhD in cognitive neuroscience or a related field, a strong track-record in cognitive neuroscience research with human participants, excellent computational, programming, and communication skills, and who are highly motivated to join the lab and project. Experience with advanced neuroimaging (especially EEG), psychophysics, and/or testing young children are a great plus, but comprehensive training can be provided.
We're a collaborative, sociable lab based across UCL's Department of Experimental Psychology and Institute of Ophthalmology. Both departments are located in central London, offering access to vibrant academic communities and exceptional resources, including close collaborations with Moorfields Eye Hospital.
