Hi all,
I wanted to provide some additional context for the tenure-track position
currently advertised with NYU Abu Dhabi, which might be relevant for this
mailing list. The application deadline is coming soon (February 1st).
Why should you apply if you are a senior postdoc or a junior faculty
already in a university position working in vision science?
1. The research resources are excellent: faculty here typically have
research lines assigned to their position (postdoc, RA) and have amazing
access to shared MRI, EEG and MEG (cryo and OPM) facilities. This allows
for even new faculty to do research at the level you might expect with an
ERC grant or an NIH R01, even before you apply for any additional external
funds.
2. I often receive questions about what it is like to live here,
particularly for women and people from specific backgrounds. I have been
told by women and members of historically underrepresented groups that they
feel welcome and especially safe here. I would be happy to put you in touch
with these colleagues in case you have any questions about this. I would
encourage you to apply, and then if you are shortlisted you can visit and
make an informed decision yourself.
3. The students are international, from over 120 different countries. This
provides a rich teaching environment and also an interesting (non-WEIRD)
and diverse sample of research participants:

For the sake of the other people on the mailing list, please contact me
directly if you have any questions or comments.
Best,
David
