We have a fully-funded postdoc position and PhD position available in the Max Planck research group of Dr. Rademaker – located at the Ernst Strüngmann Institute in Frankfurt, Germany (www.rademakerlab.org<http://www.rademakerlab.org/>).
We study: How the interplay between sensation and cognition gives rise to the rich experience that is human perception. Current work investigates how images briefly held in mind can be remembered and used in a robust manner. For example, when you’re perceiving the surrounding world while simultaneously holding an image in mind - how can your brain best represent both percept and the memory? Besides working memory, the lab is broadly interested in topics that intersect perception, spatial representations, cognition, and action in the brain.
We offer:
* Full funding.
* A collaborative and international research environment in the heart of Europe.
* Access to research dedicated (high-field) fMRI, MEG, and computational resources.
* A strong network of international collaborators.
* Start date for PhD: January 2026.
* Start date for postdoc: Some time in 2026 (flexible)
We’re looking for:
* Smart & enthusiastic people with a deep curiosity about the brain; who enjoy digging into the nitty-gritty of detailed problems; love seeking answers to Really Big Questions; are okay with the occasional failures inherent to science.
* We require an affinity for (PhD position) or experience with (postdoc position) computational methods (e.g., considerable programming experience), critical thinking, and an eye for detail.
* For the PhD position an MSc degree in a related field and a track record showing your interest in cognitive/computational neuroscience is a strong plus.
* For both positions experience with neuroimaging (e.g., EEG or fMRI) is a plus.
Equality & diversity are important to us! Underrepresented minorities are particularly encouraged to apply. For any further inquiries do not hesitate to get in touch (rademakerlab at gmail.com<mailto:rosanne.rademaker at gmail.com>).
To apply for the postdoc position: Send an email to rademakerlab at gmail.com<mailto:rosanne.rademaker at gmail.com> explaining why you’re interested in our lab, and attach a CV.
To apply for the PhD position: Send an email to rademakerlab at gmail.com<mailto:rosanne.rademaker at gmail.com> with the following information:
1. Research statement describing the neuroscience research questions you have worked on in the past, and outstanding questions you would like to address in the future. What do you want to learn during your PhD, and what skills would you bring to the lab (max 1 page, double spaced). Please do not us AI generated text, such texts provide little insight into your suitability for the position and can therefore not be evaluated
2. Recent CV including
1.
2.
* A list of publications (if applicable), computational competencies, and other relevant experience.
* Your BSc and MSc GPA, together with a legend to interpret the scale (i.e., what is the lowest and highest possible grade in your educational system)
* The names, email addresses, & affiliations of 2 references.
Note: First applications for the PhD position will be reviewed 20th of October, 2025
