We are pleased to announce that registration will soon open for the European Adaptive Optics Summer School, which will be held at the Centre for Advanced Instrumentation, Durham University, UK 13th – 17th July 2026.
We are now inviting scholarship applications – please see below.
Topics will cover the basics of adaptive optics (AO) across applications in vision science, ophthalmology, astronomy, microscopy, free space optics and beyond. The programme will be delivered by experts from across the different application areas of AO and includes lectures, hands-on lab sessions, virtual lab tours, a poster session, and a social event. We plan to offer a hybrid registration with virtual attendance for lectures only.
Expected registration fee: £400 early registration rate (£500 standard registration)
£1000 for industry attendees
£80 for remote attendance (limited programme)
Accommodation: Accommodation is available on campus for £67.50 per night, booked via the school.
Travel costs: Attendees will be expected to arrange and fund their own travel

Scholarships
We are opening applications for a limited number of scholarships to support attendance at the school, including two sponsored by the Royal Astronomical Society. These will be prioritised for students without access to training funds who would otherwise be unable to attend.
Scholarship application deadline: Friday 6th March 2026 (midnight GMT)
Outcomes will be announced in mid March. Scholarships for virtual attendance will remain open until the end of June.
