Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the launch of the Global Light Commons Micro-Grant Programme, supporting work with light exposure and visual experience data.

The programme is part of the broader Global Light Commons (GLC) initiative, which aims to build an open, FAIR-aligned global infrastructure for light-related data. By bringing together diverse datasets across regions and contexts, GLC seeks to enable more comparable, interoperable, and reusable evidence to support research in health, environment, and human experience.

These micro-grants are designed to support practical contributions to this shared effort, including data collection, curation, harmonisation, and preparation for open sharing while lowering barriers to participation in global data infrastructure.

Two funding tracks are available:
Track 1 – Data collection & harmonisation in LMICs (EUR3,000)
Supporting new datasets in under-represented regions, particularly low- and middle-income countries. Funded by the Daylight Academy.

Track 2 – Harmonisation of existing datasets (EUR1,500)
Supporting the curation, documentation, and alignment of existing datasets with shared FAIR data standards.

Applications are welcome from researchers, data scientists, practitioners, and institutions worldwide, including early-career researchers and teams with limited infrastructure.

More information and application details here.

We would greatly appreciate you sharing this opportunity with your networks.

Best regards,
