We are inviting you to participate in The Eye, The Brain, and The Auto (TETBTA) 2026 world research conference organized by Henry Ford Health (HFH) and the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology (DIO). This year the conference will be held October 26-27, 2026 (with arrivals on Sunday, October 25th) at the Atheneum Hotel in Detroit, Michigan.
Traditionally, over the past 20 -25 years this biennial conference has had a broad focus on research evaluating the impact of vision and/or cognition and other brain issues on driving performance and safety.
However, this year we are focusing on naturalistic driving as a methodology to study a broad array of driving issues. Naturalistic driving is a technology that uses instrumentation fit to a driver’s vehicle or a test vehicle to examine driver behaviors under the real-world conditions of everyday driving.
Presentation topics should focus on naturalistic driving as discussed below:
Using naturalistic driving techniques, impact of visual, cognitive, ocular, neurological and other medical conditions or interventions on driving.
The use of naturalistic driving methodologies to examine the impact of automated driver assistance systems and other vehicle interventions to improve driver safety and/or performance.
Analytic approaches to studying data streams generated by data acquisition systems used in naturalistic driving, including OBD and video.
New and emerging technologies or devices for measuring naturalistic driving.
If you have other presentation topics that do not fall into these categories, yet you think they would be appropriate, please contact Roseanne Horne at rhorne1 at hfhs.org<mailto:rhorne1 at hfhs.org>
Thanks to a grant from the Philip C. Hessburg, M.D. – Art Van Elslander Chair in Ophthalmic Research we can cover registration, two nights’ stay at the hotel and meals at the conference for speakers whose abstracts are chosen for platform presentation.
For more information on abstract submission guidelines, registration and conference hotel information, visit our webpage at www.henryford.com/theeyeandtheauto<http://www.henryford.com/theeyeandtheauto>
Please submit your abstracts by June 1, 2026.
