Dear Colleagues,

The Cognitive & Neural Computation Lab in the Department of Psychology at Yale University is hiring a Postdoctoral Fellow to start in Fall 2026 or soon after. We are seeking a candidate to lead an exciting research program in reverse-engineering visual cognition, combining computational modeling, psychophysics, and neuroimaging. This is a 2-year appointment, renewable for an additional year based on mutual agreement.

Research in the lab aims to elucidate the neural and cognitive computations that underlie how we see, predict, and plan with objects and scenes in our environments. We approach this goal by building computational models that make contact with psychophysical and neural data to yield integrative accounts of behavior, cognitive processes, and neural function, in concrete engineering terms. Work in the lab utilizes a diverse technical toolkit spanning probabilistic modeling, causal generative models, dynamical systems, and deep neural networks. You can find further information about our work here<https://cncl.yale.edu/>.

The successful candidate is expected to work independently, interface with and contribute to this technical toolkit in their computational work, and engage in empirical studies involving psychophysics and/or neuroimaging.

Relevant background for this position includes (1) a PhD in cognitive science, cognitive neuroscience, artificial intelligence, or a related field, and (2) prior experience in probabilistic machine learning, psychophysics, and/or neuroimaging.

Applicants should send an email to Ilker Yildirim at ilker.yildirim at yale.edu<mailto:ilker.yildirim at yale.edu>with the subject line “Postdoc application” and include the following items.

-- Summary description of your research program so far
-- Up-to-date CV
-- Contact information for 2-3 references

Please feel free to forward this email to students and colleagues who might be interested.
Ilker Yildirim
