The Journal of Vision invites submissions for a Special Issue on Applied Vision Science <https://jov.arvojournals.org/ss/appliedvisionscience.aspx>.

<https://jov.arvojournals.org/ss/appliedvisionscience.aspx>Applied Vision Science is research on human vision that enables new technologies, devices, and applications. On May 20, 2026 the inaugural Applied Vision Science <https://www.appliedvisionscience.org/> meeting was held in St. Pete Beach, Florida (https://www.appliedvisionscience.org/). Here we invite authors of those presentations to submit full papers on their work to a special issue of the Journal of Vision. We also extend this invitation to others working on applied vision science.

The scope of this invitation is broad, but we especially encourage studies on the vision science underlying practical applications. While we welcome contributions that advance the application of basic vision science, submissions centered on clinical vision are generally outside the scope of this issue. Papers devoted solely to modeling or theory are out of scope.

Among the potential topics are:

Design of visual displays
Image and video rendering and display
Vision science in the design of XR
Color science applications
User interface design
Data visualization

Feature Editors:

Romain Bachy, Meta, Redmond, WA, USA
Sarah Creem-Regehr, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT, USA
Gabriel J. Diaz, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY, USA
Ruth Rosenholtz, NVIDIA, MA, USA
Andrew Watson, Apple, Cupertino, CA, USA
Laurie M. Wilcox, York University, Toronto, Canada

Submissions accepted through May 1st, 2027. Accepted papers will be published as ready in the current monthly issue as well as presented together as a special issue on the JOV website..
