POST-DOCTORAL POSITION IN VISUAL NEUROSCIENCE – SEIDEMANN & GEISLER LABS
University of Texas at Austin
The laboratories of Eyal Seidemann and Bill Geisler at UT Austin are seeking applications for an NIH funded postdoctoral fellowship. Our labs are working together to investigate how neural circuits in the primate cortex mediate visual perception.
Current research focuses on addressing fundamental questions regarding how visual information is encoded and decoded by neural populations in the primate cortex. To address these questions, we use cutting-edge optical, genetic and electrophysiological techniques to measure (“read”) and manipulate (”write”) neural responses while macaque monkeys perform well-controlled perceptual tasks. Neurophysiological techniques including one- and two-photon imaging of genetically-encoded indicators and simultaneous patterned optogenetics. The research combines neurophysiology, behavioral studies in monkeys and humans, and computational modeling.
The neuroscience community at UT Austin (neuroscienceinstitute.utexas.edu<https://neuroscienceinstitute.utexas.edu/>) offers excellent facilities, an outstanding interdisciplinary scientific environment, a strong vision community and a very collegial atmosphere. Austin is an affordable city and is widely considered one of the most beautiful and livable cities in the US.
Computational background, programming experience, and experience with neurophysiology are desirable. Please send CV, statement of research interests and the names of three references to Eyal Seidemann (eyal at austin.utexas.edu<mailto:eyal at austin.utexas.edu>) and/or Bill Geisler (w.geisler at utexas.edu<mailto:w.geisler at utexas.edu>).
