A generously funded PhD position on the perception of surface gloss is available in Roland Fleming’s lab at Giessen University, in the context of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie training network DyViTo (Dynamic Vision and Touch). See https://dyvito.wordpress.com <https://dyvito.wordpress.com/> for more information about the network and the excellent training and exchange opportunities it offers.

Candidates should have a Masters degree in psychology, neuroscience, computer science or related discipline. Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of strong quantitative or computational skills.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact closely with the existing team in Roland Fleming’s lab, as well as other colleagues in closely related areas, including Karl Gegenfurtner, Knut Drewing, Katja Doerschner and Huseyin Boyaci. The successful candidate will also work closely with Schlenk Metallic Pigments GmbH (www.schlenk.com <http://www.schlenk.com/>).

Our lab offers excellent facilities for studying visual perception and motor control from both empirical and computational perspectives, ranging from psychophysics to fMRI and Deep Neural Networks. We are part of several larger research consortia on perception and action (e.g., http://www.sfb-perception.de <http://www.sfb-perception.de/>, https://www.uni-marburg.de/fb13/forschungsgruppen/neurophysik/brainact <https://www.uni-marburg.de/fb13/forschungsgruppen/neurophysik/brainact>). The group offers a stimulating, multi-national and multi-disciplinary research environment for young scientists (http://www.allpsych.uni-giessen.de <http://www.allpsych.uni-giessen.de/>). We routinely have visiting faculty from other leading universities taking sabbaticals or other extended stays in the group. A 3T Siemens scanner dedicated to research in psychology is available in the same building.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Applications from all over the world are welcome. However, to be eligible for the position, you must NOT have lived in Germany for more than 12 months in the last 3 years. You must also have a Masters degree and it cannot have been more than 4 years since you received it (this 4 year limit can be extended due to parental, carer and/or health related issues).

If you are interested in applying, please send an initial statement of interest to roland.w.fleming at psychol.uni-giessen.de <mailto:roland.w.fleming at psychol.uni-giessen.de> by 1st March 2018. This statement of interest should contain:
