Dear colleagues,

We are looking for a postdoc with experience in visual psychophysics to
work on an interdisciplinary project on active vision in humans and robots.
The postdoc will be part of the newly established research cluster 'Science
of Intelligence' (https://www.scienceofintelligence.de) and supervised by
Professor Martin Rolfs (active vision; Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin) and
Professor Oliver Brock (robotics; Technische Universität Berlin).

The project aims to derive intelligent principles of processing in
hierarchical perceptual systems, discover discrepancies from these
principles in human vision and, ideally, determine the sources of these
constraints. The postdoctoral candidate will be in charge of developing and
implementing critical psychophysical experiments in the domains of
attention, adaptation, task-specificity, and multimodality in both human
and robotic systems. They will closely collaborate with colleagues in
robotics for this purpose. A background in robotics is explicitly not
required for this position.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong interest in
vision science. The applicant needs to have a PhD in Cognitive Science,
Psychology, Neuroscience, or related fields at the time of the project
start (October 2019). Experience in psychophysics and / or behavioral
neuroscience and programming skills in Matlab / Python / R for experimental
control and data analysis are required, as is a willingness to work in an
interdisciplinary team.

*Informal inquiries and full applications should be sent to
martin.rolfs at hu-berlin.de <martin.rolfs at hu-berlin.de>. I will also be at
VSS in St Pete Beach and would be happy to meet with potential candidates
there. Please send me an email if you are interested.*

*Application deadline is May 31, 2019*

Full applications should consist of a single pdf including a motivation
letter, CV (including a list of publications), copies of degree
certificates (BSc, MSc, PhD), and the names of qualified persons who are
willing to provide references.

The research cluster Science of Intelligence seeks to establish a climate
that welcomes and promotes respect for the entire variety of human
experience, and we take a number of measures to support balancing family
and career (https://www.scienceofintelligence.de/career/).

Best regards,
Martin Rolfs.
