Goethe University Frankfurt am Main invites applications for the position of

Professor (W1, tenure track) of Machine Learning of World Models

in the Institute of Computer Science at the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics. This civil servant or public employee position will start as soon as possible.This professorship is funded by the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States. It is a tenure-track position for an initial six-year term. If tenure is approved at the end of the term, the position will be made permanent and promotion to the rank of Full Professor (W2) will be granted. This position is open to individuals in the early stages of their academic career.

We are seeking for a candidate widely recognized for excellent research in one or several of the research areas Machine Learning Systems, Simulation, Augmented and Virtual Reality, Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience, as well as applications to complement our current team.

We expect the candidate to have finished a doctorate (with grades at least 'very good') and to possess an excellent track record of scientific publications. The professorship is embedded in the attractive research landscape in Frankfurt within and outside the university (see https://www.goethe-university-frankfurt.de/118903280/). There are intensive collaborations with the Excellence Cluster Cardio Pulmonary Institute (CPI), the Ernst Strüngmann Institute for Neuroscience and other research institutions both within and outside the university. Experience in the acquisition of third-party funded projects is desired. The ability to connect to the research topics of the Institute of Computer Science, the research priorities of the faculty and the research profile of Goethe University and the willingness to cooperate with other research teams within the faculty and university are required.

We expect the candidate to represent his/her teaching subject in the undergraduate programs of the Institute of Computer Science. Upon positive tenure evaluation, a substantial participation in the basic courses in programming is also expected. Appropriate participation in academic self-administration is expected.


The formal hiring requirements are defined in Sections 67, 68, and 70 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).
