Postdoctoral position at the University of Manchester, UK

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position working with Dr. Paul Warren at the University of Manchester, UK, on a 3-year MRC-funded project entitled: Movement Perception in Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).

This project will test hypotheses regarding changes in visual-vestibular processing supporting perception of movement (both of the self and other parts of the environment) in Persistent Postural Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD), a subtype of FND. Common PPPD symptoms include dizziness and/or a feeling that the environment is unstable.

You will have (or be about to acquire) a relevant PhD together with skills in psychophysics and a strong interest in human perception and action in both health and disorder. The project also involves use of virtual reality (VR) and motion tracking technologies at the PI’s VR2 facility (https://sites.manchester.ac.uk/VR2/), receiving dedicated support from technicians in these areas. Experience with either/both of these would be advantageous (but not essential).

The appointee will be based in Manchester but join a team of academic and clinician scientists at sites across the UK (Manchester, London & Edinburgh). The deadline for applications is Monday 30th October 2023 and the successful candidate will need to start by early February 2024.
