Postdoc opportunity at UC Berkeley: Low vision, spatial vision, neuroscience

Applications are invited for a full-time postdoctoral position in the lab of Susana Chung at UC Berkeley Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry and Vision Science.  The position is supported by a research grant from NIH that aims to understand how the brain adapts to central vision loss.  The research will use a combination of techniques — eye movement measurements, visual psychophysics, visual optics, high-resolution retinal imaging and computational modeling — to study our research questions.

The position is ideal for a young scientist who would like to apply his/her knowledge and skills to answer critical research questions that impact the functional vision and quality of life of low vision patients.  There will be ample opportunity to learn and apply different techniques, and to develop into an independent scientist.  

The successful applicant should have, or will have his/her PhD in Vision Science, Engineering, Psychology, Neuroscience, or a closely related discipline.  Proficiency in MATLAB, C/C++ or Python is a must, in addition to expertise in at least one of the following areas: eye movements, visual psychophysics, visual optics, optical engineering, retinal imaging, computational modeling.

Salary will follow the UC Berkeley Postdoc Scholar salary scale (higher than the standard NIH scale).  The position is available immediately, but the start date could be somewhat flexible for the ideal candidate.  Initial appointment will be for two years, with possible continuation based on performance.
