Dear AI colleagues,
the International AI Doctoral Academy (AIDA, https://www.i-aida.org/)
has developed an extensive and detailed AI Curriculum for
undergraduate(BSc) and postgraduate(MSc/Phd) AI studies in the period
2022-2026,
thanks to the contribution of more than 15 AI scientists.
It can be downloaded from the AIDA www page:
https://www.i-aida.org/activities/aida-ai-bsc-msc-curriculum/
**
It is organized in five *Knowledge Areas (KA)*, each containing several
courses/modules called *Knowledge Units (KUs)*:
1. *KA1: Preliminary & Foundational CS (PFCS)*-6 KUs including
Programming paradigms, discrete math, data structures, etc.
2. *KA2: Advanced Mathematics & Cognitive Foundations (AMCF)*- 7 KUs
including Calculus, probability, optimization, plus
cognitive/neuroscience fundamentals.
3. *KA3: Core AI (CAI)*- 7 KUs including Foundations of AI, Knowledge
Representation, Reasoning & Planning, Machine Learning, Deep
Learning, Computer Vision, NLP, AI Ethics & Governance.
4. *KA4: Advanced & Specialized AI Electives (ASAI)*- 15 KUs including
Reinforcement Learning, Generative AI, Trustworthy AI, Robotics, etc.
5. *KA5: AI Support & Professional Practice (AISP)*- 5 KUs including
Data management, parallel/distributed programming, project
management, entrepreneurship.
It maps the AI knowledge onto a flexible 120-credit U.S. bachelor’s or
240-ECTS Bologna degree, leaving ample space for additional general
education courses, internships, etc.
**
Each Knowledge Unit (KU) contains *Recommended Contact Hours* (total
minimal classroom contact, including lectures and labs), *Topics* and
*Key Learning Outcomes*.
This AI Curriculum template for dedicated AI academic
programs/departments provides a coherent, modular pathway that conforms
to contemporary higher education standards. It is organized similarly to
the ACM/IEEE-CS/AAAI “CS2023” curriculum on AI.
Besides its use in developing undergraduate (BSc) AI programs, it can
serve as a basis for offering postgraduate AI programs at MSc, PhD or
even at postdoc level, as well as for conversion/reskilling/upskilling
AI programs for personnel reskilling/upskilling.
AIDA offers its use free of charge. If an institution makes extensive
use of this AI Curriculum, it is welcomed to mention it in the related
AI BSc/MSc/PhD program www page and supporting material.
The AI Curriculum is a living document that should be constantly
updated, as AI developments are fast and, at times, dramatic.
Any interested AI Society or AI Department/program or individual AI
scientists are welcomed to adopt it or contribute to its updates, by
contacting its authors Dr. Ioannis Mademlis and Dr. Ioannis Pitas,
towards developing a worldwide recognized standard AI Curriculum. In
this case, the contributor names will be added to the contributors’ list.
